The Literacy Architects Joins Learning Solutions Portfolio to Improve Literacy and Equity in Schools

Funding and management assistance from NewSchools Venture Fund will fuel efforts to create exceptional literacy tools and solutions for PreK-12

(Dallas, TX) – The Literacy Architects is proud to announce its selection as a member of the Learning Solutions portfolio at NewSchools Venture Fund. NewSchools grant recipients are committed to creating or expanding on innovative ways to make literacy instruction more effective for historically underserved student groups. In addition to funding, NewSchools will provide management assistance and create a community of practice for portfolio members.

With this funding, The Literacy Architects will be developing Literacy Masterminds, a series of virtual cohort-based courses through which teachers receive weekly guidance on implementing literacy best practices aligned with their school’s curriculum.

Within a district or school building, students’ access to strong literacy instruction may vary from classroom to classroom — simply depending on what their teacher knows about literacy and the level of implementation support they have access to,” said Seema Tejura, Founder and Managing Director of The Literacy Architects. “The solution is usually ‘PD,’ but the typical large-group professional development session comes with a unique set of challenges. Our Literacy Masterminds will build on the success of our self-paced PD courses and offer teachers a way to build a community of peers to support implementation of key instructional practices through a hybrid PD model  that balances synchronous and asynchronous content. We are excited to further our mission of increasing teacher knowledge and implementation of evidence-based literacy practices to improve student literacy.”

“Reading and writing skills empower students to pursue their dreams, enable them to share new ideas, and give them the tools to participate fully in society,” said Cameron White, Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund. “We believe innovative literacy solutions  have the potential to positively improve academic outcomes for Black and Latino students, and students from low-income communities. That’s why NewSchools is proud to invest in The Literacy Architects to develop engaging solutions to reimagine education.”
