Literacy Mentoring for School Leaders

We mentor and coach school leaders who do not have a background in literacy or who want to know more about research-based literacy practices such as text-dependent instruction or systematic phonics. Through one-on-one coaching, tailored professional development, role playing, and literacy walks, we help school leaders learn about the intricacies of the reading and writing standards, understand their school’s curriculum and assessments, and articulate a literacy vision and action plan for their building.
What We Do
Data Review
We work with you to take an inventory of all sources of student literacy data and make sure you have an understanding of how your students are reading and writing. We can also help you create a data wall and group students.
Literacy Vision, Goals, and Action Plan
We work together to develop your school-wide vision for reading and writing instruction. We collaborate on realistic goals and create an action plan for achieving them. We also audit your curriculum and assessments to ensure they are aligned with your vision for literacy success.
Literacy Walks
We provide professional development on literacy best practices and follow up with guided literacy walks to observe implementation. Debriefs focus on a discussion of the practice (not the teacher) and student work.
Mock Observation Conferences
We make sure you feel comfortable observing literacy instruction by co-observing a lesson with you and role-playing a post-conference.
